Starting January 26th, we're changing the default interval for OCPP Heartbeat messages from 4 minutes to 24 hours. This optimization follows recent improvements to our connectivity logic and will reduce data consumption while improving system scalability.
💡 What's changing
The OCPP Heartbeat message interval determines how frequently charging stations send keep-alive signals to our backend. With enhanced connectivity monitoring now in place, we no longer require frequent heartbeat messages to maintain reliable communication.
- Previous interval: 4 minutes (360 messages per day) [Note: this value might differ based on model]
- New interval: 24 hours (1 message per day)
- Activation: Automatically applied after the next BootNotification message
🗓️ Rollout timeline
The change will be enabled gradually, one brand at a time, to ensure a smooth transition. Your charging stations will adopt the new interval automatically - no action is required from you.
🚀 Benefits
- Reduced data consumption and costs: We estimate savings of 3-12 MB per charging station
- Improved scalability: Less network traffic allows our infrastructure to handle growth more efficiently
- Maintained reliability: Our enhanced connectivity logic ensures we detect connection issues just as quickly
This change is transparent to end users and will not affect charging operations or monitoring capabilities.
